Choices

It’s really not that difficult is it?

Do you know what foods to be eating to make up the majority of your food intake for a healthy lifestyle?

We are bombarded with health food images everyday through social media, so I’m sure you have a good idea!

You know that eating a pack of biscuits isn’t as good a choice as adding some vegetables to your meal. ( Sorry IIFYM crew, even a pack of biscuits is hard to fit )

That piece of cake may be more convenient than cooking some chicken from scratch but you know which one would be better for you, so why do you choose the cake?

You know how beneficial it is for you to drink water, yet you still don’t drink enough.

Why?

Knowledge isn’t usually the problem. I could educate you about the basics & what foods should make up the majority of your diet within 10 minutes.

I regularly make choices that may not be the best option, but I have the majority of my nutrition in a good place with some basic principles that I aim to stick to. This allows me to stay lean and healthy. We should never strive for perfect nutrition (unless you are getting on stage) what we should aim for is to have solid nutritional principles we live by.

So how do you start making more beneficial changes ?

-Have a meaningful goal. It doesn’t have to be getting to a low level of body fat, one of my personal goals is that I want to be healthy so that I can live a active lifestyle for as long as possible.

-Be accountable to someone as well as your self. The easiest person to convince is yourself, it’s easy to let your self down, I’ve been in that position. I hate letting others down, who have out their time, effort and care into me, so this makes me try harder to stick at it.

-Accept that your lifestyle needs to change. A healthy lifestyle is exactly that. No quick fixes or fads. Create lasting changes

-Enjoy your relationship with food. It’s said a lot…eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring. Google some recipes, spice things up. Enjoy eating!

-Some people do better building small habits on slow and steady basis which add up over time to create lots of positive changes

-Some prefer to have a total overhaul and do it all at once just because they have had enough and something in their head just switches. Have you ever know a smoker that just decided to stop one day ?

– Creating rules you stick to. ” I will eat 3 main meals per day & 2 snacks, each meal will contain a source of protein, I I’ll have 5 servings of fruit & veg, I will drink a minimum of 2L of water per day”
